Office of Title IX
As part of the General Statutes, and under the guidance of the Board of Directors, the Title IX Coordinator will work to ensure a safe, welcoming, and harassment-free environment for all members – students, faculty, and staff – of the NEAAAT community. The Title IX Coordinator provides training to faculty and staff, provides support with students’ training, and works with school administrators to ensure prompt and fair investigations and resolutions of all complaints related to sexual misconduct and harassment. The Title IX Coordinator along with the Board of Directors and administration ensures that NEAAAT is in compliance with federal and state laws prohibiting discrimination, sexual harassment and retaliation.

What is Title IX
The federal law prohibiting sex discrimination in educational institutions is Title IX of the Educational Amendments Act of 1972 (amending the Higher Education Act of 1965). This act is codified as Title 20, United States Code, Chapter 38, Sections 1681-1686. The act was also amended by the Civil Rights Restoration Act of 1987 (“Title IX”).
The law states that “no person in the United States shall on the basis of sex be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving federal financial assistance. The amendment in 1987 expanded the definition of program or activity to include all the operations of an educational institution, governmental entity or private employer that receives federal funds.
Title IX forbids sex discrimination in all school/district services and academic programs. Title IX also forbids discrimination because of sex in employment and recruitment consideration or selection, whether full time or part time, under any education program or activity operated by an institution receiving or benefiting from federal financial assistance (“recipient”).

Northeast Academy for Aerospace and Advanced Technologies (“NEAAAT”) does not tolerate acts of sexual or gender-based harassment. Any student who believes that he or she has been subjected to sexual or gender based harassment, any parent of such a student, or any student who believes that another student is being subjected to sexual or gender-based harassment is encouraged to report the harassment to NEAAAT, specifically to the Title IX Coordinator:

NEAAAT is committed to conducting a prompt investigation of any such reports. Counseling and educational resources will be available to students who have alleged harassment and to students accused of sexual or gender-based harassment. Students found to have been engaged in acts of harassment or other acts that create a hostile environment may be disciplined including, if circumstances warrant, suspension or expulsion. NEAAAT encourages students, parents, and staff to work together to prevent sexual and gender-based harassment.
